CATOOSA COUNTY RECREATION

Recreational activities in Catoosa County are almost endless. There is something for everyone; from hiking to hunting, canoeing to climbing, tee shots to tee ball. You can count on an array of quality recreational choices.

With today’s busy lifestyles, leisure time is at a premium and increasing numbers of people are looking toward active recreational pursuits. Catoosa County offers a varied range of recreational activities with something sure to please everyone.

 

Catoosa County Recreation Department

On any given night across the county, some of life’s most cherished memories are forged through participation in organized sports. Who can forget their first home run, touchdown, or three-pointer?

Since 1974, the Catoosa County Recreation Department has been a key part of the explosive growth which has taken place. As that growth continues, the number and scope of the programs grow, as well as the facilities.

  • 28 fields (7 lighted fields)
  • 24 tennis courts
  • 2 swimming pools
  • Special Olympics program
  • 2,400-acre Summer camp, 6 weeks a year.
  • 6+area basketball courts
  • 55-acre Jack Mattox Recreation Complex
  • Walking tracks
  • Public greenways
  • Elsie Holme's Nature Center

In 1998, 800 youngsters played on 33 recreational football teams and more than 1,000 players made up 115 youth and men’s basketball teams. There are nearly 200 teams for girl’s and women’s softball, co-ed softball, men’s softball and youth baseball and 50 soccer teams. More than 100 Catoosa youngsters competed in the Chattanooga Area Swim League.

The Great Outdoors

The most widely known recreational area in Catoosa County is the Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park. This beautiful park, with more than 8,000 acres, provides activities such as trails for hiking, biking or horseback riding, rock climbing and more.

Catoosa County also has, within close proximity:

  • Mountain Wildlife Management Area (13,000 acres)
  • Cloudland Canyon
  • Chattahoochee National Forest (one million acres)
